Introduction
Flect ("we", "our", or "the extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data when you use the Flect browser extension.
Data Collection and Storage
We do not collect any personal data. Flect is designed with privacy as a core principle.
All data created and used by Flect is stored locally on your device using your browser's storage API. This includes:
- Text quotes you save from webpages
- URLs of the pages where you saved quotes
- Timestamps of when quotes were saved
- Notes and annotations you create
- Your extension settings and preferences
Important: None of this data ever leaves your device. It is not transmitted to our servers or any third-party services.
Permissions Explained
Flect requires certain browser permissions to function. Here's what each permission is used for:
- Storage: To save your quotes, notes, and settings locally on your device.
- ActiveTab: To capture the text you select, the page URL, and context only when you activate the extension.
- SidePanel: To provide a side panel interface where you can view and manage your saved highlights, notes, and folders.
- Context Menus: To add a right-click menu option on images, allowing you to highlight and save images from web pages.
- Host Permissions (<all_urls>): To allow the extension to work on any website you visit, enabling you to collect quotes across the web. This permission does not grant us access to browse your history or data on these sites.
Third-Party Services
Flect does not use any third-party analytics, tracking, advertising, or data collection services. We do not integrate with any external APIs that would transmit your data.
Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any user data with third parties because we simply don't have access to your data. Everything stays on your device.
Data Security
Since all data is stored locally in your browser's secure storage, the security of your data is protected by your browser's built-in security mechanisms. We recommend:
- Keeping your browser up to date
- Using a secure password for your computer/device
- Being cautious about browser extensions you install
Data Retention and Deletion
Your data remains on your device until you choose to delete it. You can:
- Delete individual quotes through the extension interface
- Clear all data by deleting sources in the extension
- Remove all extension data by uninstalling Flect from your browser
Children's Privacy
Flect does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. Since we don't collect data at all, there is no special consideration needed for children's privacy beyond general browser security.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the extension or legal requirements. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
If we make material changes to how we handle user data (such as implementing cloud sync features in the future), we will notify users through the extension and obtain consent where required.
Your Rights
Since all your data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it at all times. You can:
- Access all your data through the extension interface
- Export your data
- Delete any or all data at any time
- Uninstall the extension to remove all associated data
